Aliens Exist (Dib's Theme)

Author: Amethyst Soul

Censor: PG

Genre: Angst

Disclaimer: I don't own Invader Zim. If I did, I wouldn't be here. And I don't own this song. It's 'Aliens Exist' by Blink-182. The way the song matches up with the show is really, really scary. I'm serious, some of these lyrics I didn't even have to *touch* because they matched up so well (like that biofather line and the one preceding it). I could've not even changed the song and it still would have fit in well, but I decided to anyway just to make it connect a bit more. Anyway, I think that this would make a cool video. Blink-182 make an appearance, only because it's their song and they refused to let me make a video unless they were in it. They threatened me, I tell you! Download the song here if you haven't heard it. It's an awesome song and makes this song-fic 300% better. Look for files around 2.95 or 2.94 MB.

::blackness fills the screen, which slowly fades into a scene of Dib on the roof. He's listening for aliens on his interstellar radio, which casts a green glow upon him, when suddenly he catches sound of Zim's laughing. But then static ensues, and an unfamiliar voice fills the headphones. A bewildered look crosses his face as he looks to the sky above::

"And now," says the voice, "The taller than YOU losers yet still slightly shorter than us, Blink-182!"

The camera pans to Dib's view, and soars toward the star-lit skies the speed of warp. All is quiet as a picture of a slowly spiraling galaxy filled with clusters and clusters of stars filled the screen. Then a ship loops into view. The ship is huge, and magenta in color, with a green front window and the Irken symbol in black is painted on the side. The camera zooms into the window, where Blink-182, all wearing black Z? t-shirts, begin to perform in front of a huge crowd of Irkens. White smoke billows across the floor on which they're performing, and red lasers flash everywhere. The band begins the music as the camera zooms back to Earth.

"Hey dad there's something in the garage
I hope it's not that Bigfoot yet again.

We see a younger Dib pointing toward the garage, where Bigfoot is using a belt sander. Professor Membrane walks into the room, but turns away, ignoring Dib and shaking his head. The scene melts away, and we see an even younger Dib (about 6 months, no glasses, wrapped in a black blanket), in a younger Professor Membrane's arms, a woman with a shadowed face that cannot be see sits next to him, but we can see her long violet hair. He is reading him a story entitled 'The Boy Who Cried Wolf'.

You used to read me stories
As if my dreams were boring.
You think my conspiracies are dumb.

The scene fades away once again, and Dib is somewhat older, around 4. He sits alone on his bed in a dark room, next to the book that his parents used to read him. He sighs, and then glances at it with hatred. Grabbing out a pencil, he jumps down from the bed, walks over to his desk, and turns on the light. He sits down and begins to write. As he writes, he 'morphs' back into he older self, writing 'Zim is here' with a dark black pen across the book.

What if people knew that Zim was real
I'd leave my closet door open all night

The scene around Dib fades away, and instead of writing at his desk at home, he is drawing pictures of a mauled Zim at skool. He looks around as his classmates laugh at him, and glares at Zim from across the room, who sits their, feigning an innocent grin.

I know the kids at skool would say
What you hear is all hearsay
I wish someone would tell me I was right.

Dib sighs and shakes his head, going back to his drawing. Across the top of the picture, he writes, 'I wish...'. The scene slowly fades away to Dib, lying in his bed at night, the moonlight casting a pale eminence onto his bed. Dib looks up at his wall, where the moon throws a shadow of the window against it. The shadow of a branch wavers across the wall, which turns into a figure resembling Zim. Dib fearfully turns his head around to see that it is only a squirrel.

Up all night long
And there's something very wrong
And I know it must be late
Been gone since yesterday.

We see Zim, pacing in his house, past Gir, who is sitting on the floor watching the Scary Monkey Show. Dib is sitting on the roof of Zim's neighbor's house, using his night-vision goggles, peeking into the window.

I'm not like you guys
I'm not like you

Gir points out the window directly at Dib, and Zim spins around. His eyes close in to become a focused glare, and then we see Dib caught off guard, clumsily dropping the night vision goggles, which plummet toward the ground. The camera pans to the floor to where a disfigured skeleton resembling a former bestest friend lies. A squirrel nibbles at the arm of the skeleton but scampers away once the goggles hit the ground, shattering upon impact. The camera zooms in on one of the shattered jade-colored lenses, where we see the reflection of an angry Zim shaking his fist and passing across it.

The camera moves up from the goggles to the current scene of Zim on the lawn, looking up at Dib on the roof. The scene around both of them fades away, and the distance between them shortens as they are now standing face to face, on the same barren horizon ground, glaring at each other.

I am still the skeptic yes you know me
Been enemies and will be till we die
I got an injection
Of fear from my abduction
My own sis thinks I'm just telling lies

The scene fades away as we now see a sleepy, messy-haired Dib, jerking up from his bed in a worried and sweaty mess, as if he'd just awoken from a nightmare. Gaz stands next to him, shaking her head and scowling as she points to the clock. Dib slowly rises from the bed but winces, as he just realizes he's stepped on something. The camera pans to where floor, where shattered, jade-colored glass lies, along with a broken pair of goggles.

Alright-
Up all night long
And there's something very wrong
And I know it must be late
Been gone since yesterday
I'm not like you guys
I'm not like you.

(Music Interlude)
The camera zooms up from Earth back to the ship, where Blink-182 are playing. Behind the cheering Irken crowd are Purple and Red, elevated on a stage of their own, watching the concert. Purple holds up a lighter and waves it side to side. Red is about to lift up *his* (don't ask me how they got those...) but falls back into a crowd of screaming Irken females as he is shot in the eye with a laser. The girls scream at this, holding up their Blink-182 signs, and trample Red.

The camera pans back to Earth, to where Dib is running through the dark woods. The camera stops, and Dib runs past it. A few seconds pass when Zim's vootrunner comes into view, blowing past the camera. The camera pans to pursue it.

Dark and scary,
Unordinary,
Exploration
Information.
Nice to know ya,
Paranoia.
Where's my mother,
Biofather?

A black diagonal transition passes over the screen, and once again we see the younger Dib, gazing up at the shadowed figure with the long violet hair that falls to her shoulders. Her face is unidentifiable, and she looms over Dib for a moment, then vanishes. The camera zooms out of this scene, and we see Dib once again standing alone on his roof, gazing up the sky where a full moon glows. A lone star sparkles next to it, then fades away.

Up all night long
And there's something very wrong
And I know it must be late
Been gone since yesterday
I'm not like you guys
Twelve majestic lies."
